The Build it, Test it, Race it area includes three components that work together to provide opportunities for children to practice important STEAM elements of inquiry, testing, tinkering, observing, and measuring and to share their theories. Visitors get to design and build a vehicle at multiple work stations. They can then race it on the track where speed and acceleration will be measured and displayed. Children can then rebuild the car to make it travel faster down the track. They can also change the shape of the track to introduce another variable. All this tinkering with materials, building, testing, and rebuilding of cars teaches important aspects of the scientific process, a key science standard. In the process, children learn valuable engineering and design skills.
