The Handprint Globe exhibit sets the tone for the large-scale, kid-powered, collaborative pieces at MOXI The Wolf Museum of Exploration + Innovation. Here, each visitor uses their hands to create collaborative imagery on a gigantic glowing LED sphere. The visitor stations capture infrared and visible light live imagery, with computer control of the LED system, the handprints are digitally displayed over the entire surface of the globe allowing visitors to work together from their stations to manipulate the dynamic patterns. This strong visual is a collective measuring device and can be used to communicate how each person’s individual contributions add up to impact the overall environment. Visitors can alter their handprint display by selecting one of the many effects available on the visitors station. For special events and evening rentals, the globe can also be programmed for specific audiences. It can display feeds from other exhibits or show event video footage.
