Heartbeat Drum

Heartbeat Drum is an interactive exhibit that allows visitors to explore a meaningful relationship between their heartbeat and music. When visitors place both hands on the drum handles, a drumstick beats the drum in rhythm with the visitor’s heartbeat. If the visitor is calm the drum will beat at a slower rate; if the visitor is excited the drum will beat at a faster rate. The double-sided handles allow for two visitors to interact with the exhibit at a time. Visitors can compare their heartbeats and work together to create a beat. It is possible through time and coordination for the visitors to slow or speed up their pulse so that the drum beats in unison.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Our Creative Machines shop is located on the ancestral lands of the Tohono O'odham Nation. We are nestled in the heart of Tucson, Arizona, a vibrant, culture-rich city, both presently and historically. This land was home to some of the earliest people in North America, the Hohokam, and we honor and respectfully acknowledge the indigenous nations that have stewarded this land since time immemorial. Today, Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized tribes, with Tucson being home to the Tohono O’odham and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
