Hole Saws is an interactive sound exhibit which features a series of unsharpened hole saws of various sizes placed around one of two concentric rings on a tabletop. Visitors can arrange the hole saws in the center ring to create a rhythm as they are struck by a spinning striker arm that is connected to a solar-powered motor at the tabletop’s center.

The solar panel includes a cover flap that can be opened and closed to start or stop the motor from spinning, therefore starting and stopping the rhythm of the hole saws from being played. When the fabric flap is open, the visitor can manipulate their own shadows in front of the solar panel and observe that when individual solar panel cells are blocked the motor slows down or comes to a full stop.
