At Creative Machines, we’re constantly exploring the intersection of art, science, and interaction. Our latest outdoor sculptural installations exemplify this, bringing music and nature together in a harmonious, hands-on experience. Unveiled this past weekend at the Second Sky event, these innovative artpieces combine sound, color, and motion to create a multi-sensory spectacle for all to enjoy.
Chime Arc
This piece is a dynamic symphony of soothing melodies and vibrant reflections. Wind passing through vertical metal tubes generates soft, calming sounds, while sunlight dances across their surfaces, casting playful reflections onto the ground and visitors alike. And, for those looking for a more direct interaction, the exhibit features musical hammers that invite people to strike the tubes, transforming the piece into a multi-sensory musical instrument.
Rhythm Turntable
The second sculpture takes musical interactivity to a whole new level. Beyond its visual and auditory appeal, this interactive piece offers a hands-on opportunity for visitors to engage with music in collaboration with nature. The drum machine allows for experimentation with polyrhythms, swinging patterns, and other musical techniques that are not usually available on traditional instruments. The turntable is a space for creative exploration where you create a variety of sounds by placing bolts on sensors, from simple beats to complex polyrhythms.
Collaboration
These project marks an exciting milestone for us at Creative Machines. Our talented intern, Jason Nuttle, worked closely with lead artist Joseph O’Connell to bring this musical marvels to life. Jason’s innovative approach to public art helped push the boundaries of what’s possible when blending art and engineering.
Together, these two sculptures offer a space where visitors can engage with both nature and music, whether they’re listening to the wind’s melodies or creating their own compositions. These pieces exemplify our commitment to creating art that inspires curiosity, interaction, and joy. We’re incredibly proud of this collaboration and excited for the potential it holds for future exhibits.
Stay “tuned” for more updates, and if you get the chance, be sure to visit us to experience them for yourself. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a music lover, or just someone looking for a moment of connection with the natural world, we believe this outdoor sculpture will resonate with you—literally and figuratively.
