Reactable

Reactable is an electronic musical instrument with a Tangible User Interface tabletop that enables visitors to create a wide range of exciting digital music. By placing blocks called tangibles on the table that interface with the visual display, visitors control virtual synthesizers and sequencers to create music or sound effects. The instrument captivates through direct and immediate feedback and guides the player to understand and explore sound generation in an intuitive way, no matter the age or musical knowledge.

Its multi-user capability allows several players to use the installation simultaneously and promotes collaborative compositions. A visual display of the tabletop is projected onto the white wall next to the exhibit so other visitors of the museum are able to watch the action from a distance. Reactable is accessible to all ages.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Our Creative Machines shop is located on the ancestral lands of the Tohono O'odham Nation. We are nestled in the heart of Tucson, Arizona, a vibrant, culture-rich city, both presently and historically. This land was home to some of the earliest people in North America, the Hohokam, and we honor and respectfully acknowledge the indigenous nations that have stewarded this land since time immemorial. Today, Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized tribes, with Tucson being home to the Tohono O’odham and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
