Rising Star is a stainless steel star in the process of pushing itself out of the ground, almost as if being born. The sculpture is installed in Rosslyn, Virginia. The points of the star are oriented toward key United States landmarks such as Arlington Cemetery, the White House and the site of Rosslyn’s historical origins. The repeated pattern of perforations refer to the area’s colonial and 19th-century origins as a community along the river and its modern role supporting national defense and numerous federal agencies. Rising Star is meant to serve as a companion to Nancy Holt’s nearby Dark Star Park.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Our Creative Machines shop is located on the ancestral lands of the Tohono O'odham Nation. We are nestled in the heart of Tucson, Arizona, a vibrant, culture-rich city, both presently and historically. This land was home to some of the earliest people in North America, the Hohokam, and we honor and respectfully acknowledge the indigenous nations that have stewarded this land since time immemorial. Today, Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized tribes, with Tucson being home to the Tohono O’odham and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
